PowerMap Privacy Policy
PowerMap is a public electricity availability and productivity tool operated by PowerMap Tech (“PowerMap,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
PowerMap helps users make better everyday decisions around electricity availability in Nigeria. Through PowerMap, users can check estimated power availability in different areas, share power updates, view community reports, follow power-related updates, share Power Cards, and discover useful nearby places such as workspaces, cafés, fuel stations, viewing centers, and other locations where reliable power may support productivity.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect your personal data when you use our website, web application, features, Feed, Discover feature, Power Card, and related services, collectively referred to as the “Services.”
This Privacy Policy is designed to comply with applicable Nigerian data protection laws, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, the Nigeria Data Protection Act General Application and Implementation Directive 2025, and other applicable regulations, directives, or guidance issued by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
1. Purpose of This Privacy Policy
The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to explain, in clear terms, what information we collect about you, why we collect it, how we use it, who we may share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have in relation to your personal data.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly, lawfully, fairly, securely, and transparently.
2. Our Role
For most PowerMap Services, PowerMap Tech acts as a Data Controller. This means we determine why and how your personal data is collected and processed.
In limited cases, where we process information strictly on behalf of a partner, business customer, service provider, or third-party organization under a written agreement, we may act as a Data Processor. Where this applies, we process such data only in line with the lawful instructions of the relevant Data Controller and applicable data protection laws.
3. Information We Collect
We collect only the information reasonably necessary to provide, operate, improve, secure, and personalize PowerMap.
The categories of information we may collect include:
a. Identity and Account Information
This may include your name, username, email address, phone number, password or login credentials, profile picture, account preferences, and any other information you provide when creating or managing a PowerMap account.
b. Contact Information
This may include your email address, phone number or other contact details you provide when you contact us, join a waitlist, request support, submit feedback, participate in campaigns, or communicate with us.
c. Location Information
PowerMap is location-based, so we may collect location-related data to provide core product features. This may include your selected location, area, city, approximate location, GPS-based location where you grant permission, IP-based location, or coordinates associated with a power report, Discover listing, Power Card, or location search.
You can control certain location permissions through your browser, device, or application settings. Some PowerMap features may not function properly if location access is disabled.
d. Power Availability Reports and Community Updates
When you submit a power update, Feed post, report, comment, rating, or other community contribution, we may collect the information you provide, including the location or area reported, power status, time of update, text, images, media, reactions, and related metadata.
Please note that some PowerMap features are community-facing. This means that certain updates you submit may be visible to other users, especially where they are intended to support public power availability awareness.
e. Power Card Information
When you generate, customise, download, or share a Power Card, we may process the location, estimated power availability data, display name, timestamp, area information, and sharing-related metadata associated with that Power Card.
f. Discover and Place Interaction Data
When you use the Discover feature, we may process information about places you search for, view, save, report, or interact with. This may include workspaces, cafés, fuel stations, viewing centers, or other public locations listed on PowerMap.
g. Device, Browser, and Usage Data
We may automatically collect technical information when you use PowerMap, including your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, device identifiers, referral source, pages viewed, features used, actions taken, session duration, crash logs, error reports, and other diagnostic information.
h. Communications and Support Data
If you contact us for support, feedback, complaints, business inquiries, partnerships, or general communication, we may collect your name, contact details, message content, attachments, and any other information required to respond to you.
i. Marketing and Campaign Data
If you join a waitlist, subscribe to updates, participate in a campaign, respond to surveys, or engage with our marketing channels, we may collect your contact details, preferences, responses, campaign interactions, and consent status.

We take the security of your personal data seriously and implement appropriate technical, organizational, and administrative measures to protect it against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
Our security measures may include encryption, access controls, authentication safeguards, secure hosting, monitoring, logging, vulnerability management, internal policies, employee confidentiality obligations, data minimisation, backup procedures, and incident response processes.
However, no digital platform, website, or internet-based service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your account login details confidential and for notifying us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
11. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.
The retention period may depend on the type of data, the purpose for which it was collected, legal or regulatory requirements, dispute resolution needs, fraud prevention, security requirements, audit obligations, or operational needs.
